New Haven Boathouse

Graduate Studio V, 2013
New Haven, CT
A large harborfront facility provides urban New Haven with long-deprived access to its waterfront. Facilities encourage community involvement in rowing and sailing activities. Three blocky masses expand toward the water, encouraging passage through the building onto docks, decks and terraces by the water. An opaque north facade provides shelter from the adjacent I-95 Interstate highway. Multiple paths create an exploratory experience. Curving overhead beams allude to the curved ribs of a ship.
